The Temple
I went down to the quarry, carved stone with bloodied hands
Each to perfect form, according to my plans
I knew you would come, as surely as the rising sun
Dragged them across the fields, only took a few centuries
Up to the mountain top, overlooking the lonely sea
I thought you would come, to see the wonder that I had done
Laid the foundation, worked my way up from there
Each piece placed, with all my love and all my care
I hoped you would come, to stand in the Temple that I had begun
Finishing touches: Murals on the floor, paintings on the wall
And through the columns, a statue of you to which I crawl
I prayed you would come, I'll keep on praying till my knees are numb
Chorus:
These Temple walls are cold, the alter's fire burning out
Goddess I am alone . . . but I'm ready (I'm ready) to worship (been ready), but where the Hell are you?
**Instrumental**
Change:
I'm in the shadow of your statue
Beneath marble eyes and a heart of stone
Here in the ruins, that's where you can find me
You've turned me into an atheist, go ahead and throw your lightening
Why did you not come? Is torturing this slave that much fun?
Chorus
